What do you get when you
mix music, motorcycles and art together?
The Guitar & Handlebars Festival held at the Mesa Arts Center
located in downtown Mesa, Arizona. This
combination of elements may sound strange for some, but it makes perfect sense
today.
The music industry has
always had a close relationship with motorcycles featuring them in videos,
album/CD cover art and not to mention lots of musicians owning them. Recently, the mainstream population has been
accepting choppers, bobbers, café racers and other customs as rolling art.
The Guitars &
Handlebars Festival is the kick-off event for the Mesa Arts Center season
premiering the Radical Rides and the Six-String Fantasies exhibitions. The latter expo showcases artwork
conceptualized and/or painted by famous musicians on various Dean guitars. The Radical Rides exhibition featured highly
stylized customs, a what looks like a Suzuki GSF500 made from sea shells and
sand, fuel tanks as art and a stand-up bass guitar made with a Moto Guzzi fuel
tank and Yamaha Deltabox frame!
The Kick-Off event also
featured a custom car and motorcycle show outside on Main St. If you’re in the Phoenix area, this is an
event worth checking out. Six-String Fantasies
runs until December 4, 2011 and Radical Rides until January 9, 2012.
