Pounding The Pavement: AZ SR89N White Spar Pass, Wilhoit to Prescott

The ribbon of pavement through the White Spars between Wilhoit and Prescott on Arizona State Route 89 North is one of my favorite pieces of road I've been on so far.  Located in the Bradshaw Mountains, this technical piece of asphalt throws just about every variety of low and medium speed corners possible at you.  Most of the turns are blind with a long drop off to your right.  The only thing between you and a free fall is a network of unforgiving armco barriers.

Peaking at roughly 5,400 feet at the end in Prescott, the views from the various pull offs are awesome.  Pavement is generally well maintained, but racetrack hard suspension set ups will be punished by some of the bumps.  Perfect bike here is something lightweight with plenty of torque.  Think Ducati Monster or any variety of motards and nakeds on the market.  Once the road starts to straighten out, you'll know you're getting close to Prescott.  By this time, you'll notice that the vegetation is a lot different and greener vs the tans of the desert.  Plus, it's about 10 degrees cooler up here than in the Phoenix Valley. Once in Prescott, gas up, turn around and do the road again!  Or better yet, continue on to one of the other twisty parts along 89 or 89A.
