Today's ride started with an awesome breakfast at Matt's Big Breakfast located on a quiet corner (on Sunday at least) in downtown Phoenix. I discovered this place on an episode of Diners, Drive Ins and Dives on the Food Network. I ordered what was simply called the "Waffle" and wow, what a waffle. It was the size of a plate! Also included were two very thick slices of peppery bacon that were cooked to perfection. I'd have to say that breakfast exceeded all expectations!
After breakfast, I continued through downtown on Central Ave. After a short ride through a heavily populated area of Phoenix, I arrived at the entrance to South Mountain Park. The road to Dobbin's Peak is extremely entertaining full of fairly low speed switchbacks which is perfect for the Bonnie. The park seems to attract lots of cyclists, hikers and had what looked like some sort of cart track! To my surprise, I was the only one on a motorcycle. Maybe the chilly early morning temperatures had something to do with that, it was well worth the chill to practically have the road to myself.
If you haven't been on this ride, it's a great breakfast morning ride and depending on where you live, you can be home before noon. Highly recommended!
